Holiday Party Planning Tips
Five Tips for a Stellar Holiday Party
When it comes to planning a holiday event, the last thing anyone wants is a stereotypical Christmas party – complete with inappropriate mistletoe, spiked eggnog and lampshades as headwear. Follow our holiday party planning tips and ensure that your gathering will be peaceful and joyful for all.
- Start planning early. Many popular Denver-area venues start taking reservations as early as January for the next holiday season! Regardless of when you start planning, make the venue your first priority and book as early as possible. Remember that other vendors, including entertainment, caterers, etc. will also book up early at this time of year.
- Think outside the box. Planning your event for a weekday or at an unusual time (brunch or lunch perhaps) can save you a lot of money; this is especially useful to keep in mind if you are looking for a venue at the last minute. Also, guests may be less likely to overindulge if they know they have to show up for work the next morning! Be original when picking your venue as well. How about a party under the sea at the Denver Aquarium?
- Be all-inclusive. Keep decorations and themes simple and respectful of all denominations and traditions. Stay away from stereotypical decorations and characters. A winter theme is always appropriate. Or, you might consider a more unique theme. What about a Broncos barbecue or a mile-high beach party?
- Party responsibly. Holiday gatherings are notorious excuses for people to overindulge, so plan accordingly. All alcoholic beverages should be served by a licensed bartender; consider using a ticket system or cash bar to help limit drinking. Make sure to provide lots of food and non-alcoholic beverages and arrange for transportation in advance in case a guest needs help getting home.
- Remember the spirit of the season. Consider donating flowers, decorations and excess unserved food to local charities. Encourage guests to participate in the spirit of giving by requesting they bring a donation of non-perishable foods or gently used winter clothing. Make a donation to a Denver-area charity in honor of your guests.
